Diving

Our municipality is located in a very rich and well-preserved seabed area that has made it the second most popular scuba diving tourist destination in Catalonia.

The most attractive and interesting seabed for scuba diving in our area is:

La Sardana: Located approximately in front of Cap Roig, for diving at a depth of between 20 and 28m.

The President's Rock (Tabal): In front of the Gens cove. Its bottom is formed by two small mountains, with depths ranging between 22 and 38m.

The Formigues Islands: Very interesting place for scuba diving. These islands bear witness to numerous naval battles such as that of the summer of 1285 in which the squadron of Pere el Gran, under the command of Admiral Roger de Llúria, won a clear victory by sinking and disabling the invading ships of the French king Felip l'Ardit. There are also more recent remains that can still be admired today, such as those of the cargo ship Paz de Espada, sunk on Christmas 1921, on a bottom of 14m.

The foraió of Aigua Xelida: Part of the underwater mountain emerges from the water and then, gently and with narrow passages and caves, descends to 40m.

The llosa of Cala Nova: Located in front of Punta d'en Blanc. From 12m deep it goes down to 42 meters. The whole is formed by several underwater mountain ranges, with the splendor of the famous gorgonian meadows.

Els Ullastres: These are three underwater mountains in one of the most rugged points of the Llafranc coast. The largest and most abrupt is the furthest from the land, reaching up to 54 meters deep.
